Andrew Cohill: New Mexico statewide and local broadband initiatives

Andrew Cohill, president and CEO of Design Nine, described the U.S. broadband model as broken in a discussion on broadband initiatives in an afternoon technical talk at santa Fe Complex. “If the overnight delivery business ran like telecommunications,” Cohill said, “each home would have three roads for package delivery. Each carrier would own and deliver packages on its proprietary road.” There’s another option, however, which is a developing a “single, very high-performance” open fiber network with a wireless overlay. more…

From video games to computer simulations, the then 16-year-old math whiz talks about his move to accepting his self-described nerdness and his coming trip to Stanford, two years ahead of schedule for most kids. Peter Jackson’s enormous success with the Lord of the Rings trilogy depended in no small part by the technical breakthroughs that create the complex world of Middle Earth. In particular, “Peter Jackson and his team made great breakthroughs in [artificial intelligence]” that made the orcs and other demons believable, according to Terry Borst, who spoke at this week’s WedTech in the Great Room at Santa Fe Complex.
