Cafe Scientifique: A Cancer Vaccine?
At least 20% of all cancers worldwide are caused by viruses and bacteria. Eliminating infections with these agents is a primary approach to preventing the development of these cancers. Cafe Scientifique explores their connection this week.
The human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine is an ideal example of this tactic. Clinical trials demonstrate nearly 100% vaccine effectiveness in preventing certain precancers caused by HPV. Join us for a presentation of the science behind the vaccine and a discussion of who should be vaccinated and the roadblocks associated with global vaccination implementation.
