Santa Fe Complex celebrates the spirit of the DIY (Do it Yourself) culture in re:Make It!, a three day festival at of installations, music and workshops showcasing innovative uses of custom built, re-purposed or recycled technology. Twenty-two collaborators create a panoply of artwork through environments and performances that reflect self reliance, innovation, collaboration, and community participation from August 7 to August 9.

This show, conceived and curated by David Enoch and Dena Aquilina, features a showcase of large scale interactive, sculptural, and kinetic installations. Collaborators include Meow Wolf, Christian Ristow, Edica Pacha, H. Williams, Harlan Emil Gruber, Martin Back, Michael Lujan, Michael Shiloh, David Cudney, Ayla Bysstrom-Michael Schippling, Sudhu Tewari, Tristan Chambers, Ayla Bystrom-Williams, Lorin Edwin Parker, Ann Savageau, Gillian Densmore, Christina Sporrong, Erin Mankins, Mikey Sklar, Simon Mehalek, David Enoch, and Dena Aquilina. This diverse group of wildly intelligent artists creates absurd, innovative and over-the-edge artwork that includes theatrical robotics, steam powered synthesizers, artisanal electronics, interactive collaborative environments, digital graffiti, interactive resonant gourds, kinetic optical illusions, and a collaborative community based weaving project.

subjugator by Christian RistowChristian Ristow’s reconfigured road-working equipment robots, the Subjugator and the Manipulatrix, will be featured in a “Robot Rampage” spectacle on Saturday, Aug. 8, at dusk. There will also be a traditional presentation of re-purposed art including re-worked vintage garden tools, elegant bags from once worn silky lingerie, mechanical bronze beating hearts, and some ephemera from Ed Grothus’ Black Hole.

Musical groups performing throughout the weekend include D Numbers, Axel Foley, *Femme Beatbox Say Wut?!*, The Transducers, Rocket Parlour, and more.

artscommlogoscaledThe scheduled workshops are a fascinating mix, including Digital Homesteading, an Intro to Physical Computing, Kaleidoscope Making for All Ages, a talk on Techno-art, How to make Hand-made Tube Synthesizers and Solar Powered Oscillators. Plus workshops on re:Made fashion and how to create your very own art/science/ technology artifacts! Bring a flashlight or laser pointer on Friday for an interactive musical performance, something to deconstruct and re:Make Saturday, and an unwanted garment to re:fashion Sunday.
